What's the latest? We carry The Original Silamide thread colors on 100 yard spools and some colors on 500 yard spools. Silamide thread is manufactured in the USA. Silamide is a favorite thread for beaders as well as quilters, tailors, and dressmakers. Silamide is a high quality, color fast thread. Silamide thread is a very popular beading thread mentioned in a number of beading books and often preferred by beading instructors. Although it is cheaper than many of the new threads that have come out recently, it's very strong and holds up well in all types of bead work. You can tie excellent, tight knots in this thread.
Silamide is a 2 ply, pre-waxed nylon thread that knots and holds well. It has a gorgeous texture, is strong and resilient. Silamide is good for all beading techniques including brick stitch, right angle weave, peyote, bead netting, spirals, square stitch and loom weaving. Silamide can be used as both the warp and the weft thread on a loom. You can add an additional warp thread on each outer side of the piece for extra strength. Since Silamide is pre-waxed, beeswax does not need to be added unless you are making beaded beads and other 3-D items needing more hold power.
Silamide is size "A" thread. You should be able to thread Silamide through size 13 beading needles. Silamide will also pass through size 15 beading needles but it takes a little extra effort to get it through the needle eye. Silamide can be used with seed bead sizes 15/0 through 6/0 seed beads for various beading techniques. The needle and thread will pass through the beads several times for beading requiring multiple passes through a bead. You can double the thread for the larger beads or use a single thread for the smallest beads Silamide can also be used for bead embroidery and crochet. You can use it to knot between tiny pearls as well. You can use a Thread Zapper tool to cut and seal the thread.
